A unique vintage Tibetan Vajravarahi Thogchag Gau amulet, traditionally carried as a personal Buddhist devotional and protective object.
The front features a raised metal image of Vajravarahi, surrounded by an aged hand-stitched leather casing. The amulet retains its old leather cord, allowing it to be worn around the neck or carried as a portable talisman.
The metal surface has developed a deep, naturally aged patina, while the leather shows substantial wear, darkening, creasing and surface changes from age and use. These characteristics give the piece a strong traditional and well-used appearance.
In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Vajravarahi (Dorje Phagmo) is an important female tantric deity associated with wisdom and spiritual transformation. Portable Gau or Ghau amulets were traditionally worn or carried to hold sacred images and other devotional objects.
