A beautiful and substantial Chinese bronze sculpture depicting the legendary Luduan, a traditional Chinese mythical guardian beast closely related in appearance to the Qilin.
This striking figure features a dramatic upward-facing head, an open mouth with detailed teeth, prominent eyes, flowing curled mane, and elaborate flame-like decorations across its body. Its powerful posture and expressive craftsmanship give the sculpture a distinctive traditional Chinese character.
The bronze displays a naturally aged-looking dark patina with areas of green oxidation, surface wear, and rich textural details, creating a wonderful antique-style appearance.
The underside bears a four-character Chinese inscription reading “Da Ming Xuande” (大明宣德), a traditional Ming Xuande reign-style mark. The mark is described for identification only and does not establish the actual age of the sculpture.
In Chinese mythology, the Luduan is an auspicious creature traditionally associated with wisdom, justice, protection, and good fortune. Similar mythical beasts were frequently represented in Chinese decorative arts and traditional guardian sculptures.
A distinctive decorative piece for collectors of Chinese bronze art, Asian antiques, mythical creatures, and traditional Feng Shui objects.
